Dr. Louhaichi is a Research Scientist in the Department of Rangeland Ecology and Management at Oregon State University. His research interests include landscape ecology, development of techniques for rapid vegetation monitoring and environment impact assessment. Current research projects include mapping and monitoring saline soils and weed infestations using remote sensing techniques (US Geological Survey & US Bureau of Land Management) and animal distribution on landscapes for the USDA.
He has over 12 years experience in rangeland improvement and project management in developing countries. He is a certified GIS professional (GISP) and has consulted for the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) on sustainable management of the agro-pastoral resource base in North Africa and the Middle East and for the World Bank (Mongolia) on wildlife habitat characterization and herder/wildlife conflict.
